Interlaken

Yesterday, I arrived in Interlaken, a cool Swiss town located between two big lakes and surrounded by some of the biggest mountains in the alps.

I started by renting a bike and going to one of the lakes...

Today, I went to the 'top of Europe', Jungfraujoch. This was amazing, thou it was a lot busier than I was expecting as there was a Brian Adams concert near the top of mountain.

Taking pictures inside the crowded trains on the way up was hard, so here's a picture of a train.

There were people everywhere...

Stations in caves!

The views were pretty amazing.

This is the viewing station on top of the mountain.

At the top, there was this ice sculpture place.

And you could walk around outside.

On the way back, there were even more concert goers.

Great views on the train back down...

At some point the snow has to come to an end...

Tomorrow: Grenoble!

Basel

I spent Thursday in Basel, that awesome city in northern Switzerland. I was cycling around all day, so I didn't have my big camera, thou I did use my phone to take a few pics.

I cycled into France and explored Saint Louis and Huningue. Then I crossed the bridge to the German town of Weil am Rhein.

I went back to Switzerland via a lovely park that runs along the border. (the weather's been weirdly hot on this whole trip.)

I then got a chance to explore Basel's old town centre, which I never actually saw last time.

Liechtenstein

Last night I stayed in the tiny country of Liechtenstein. I stayed in the country's hostel, and I was the only guest. It was weirdly quiet.

It's a lovely little country though. Although there's not a lot going on, it's very pretty.

I got into the country by walking over from the Swiss town of Buchs where the RailJet train stops. Here's the bridge across...

Switzerland is on the left, Liechtenstein is on the right. This is the Rhine river.

This is what I saw from my window in the hostel.

The prince lives in this castle Which overlooks the capital Vaduz.

This is the country's 25 seat parliament.

There's even a fairly big college in this tiny country, right next to the hostel I was staying in.

I'm writing this on the TGV to Basel where I'm staying one night before moving on to Interlaken.

Neuchwanstein castle

Today I went to see Neuchwanstein castle. This was a pretty amazing castle on the side of a hill near the Austrian border. It took a while to get here, but it was well worth going to see.

Unfortunately they didn't let us take pictures inside, so here's some I took from around the outside.

München

I arrived in Munich on Sunday evening. The next day, I went on a free tour of the city centre. We started out at the glockenspiel, which the tour guide wasn't a great fan of. But of course it had to be seen when in munich!

There was this strange spinning device under an archway...

Right next to a statue of Juliet, from Romeo and Juliet.

There are a lot of concrete building with fake painted on bricks. The whole city is a replica of itself before it was all destroyed in world war 2. But of course they cheated a little with some of the buildings...

Munich has many beer halls....

Here's a bright yellow church.

This is the hauptbahnhof.

In the evening, a few of us from the tour went to a restaurant/beer hall operated by augustiner brewery. That was lovely.
